Ben Oxley (Auto Biography)
I am an educator with over 13 years teaching experience. I have taught within Australia, New South Wales, in Public, Catholic and Independent sectors. The majority of my career has been with the Catholic Education Office of Parramatta, NSW, Australia. I have worked internationally in both Germany and the United Kingdom. I have been involved in developing two newly establishing school campuses Pre-Prep to Year 12 and I have held a number of leadership roles.
In Germany I worked in Frankfurt as a foundation staff member at Metropolitan School Frankfurt with the responsibility of Literacy & Technology and Grade Coordinator. In the UK I was employed at an Independent Jesuit Preparatory School as the Head of Religious Education and Lay Chaplain. In returning to Australia, I worked at St Paul’s Grammar School in Sydney, as Head of House and teaching the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Currently, I am a teacher with the Catholic Education Office of Parramatta at St Monica’s Richmond.
During my time as an educator I have had experience teaching Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 10. One of my prior schools, the ‘Catholic Learning Community of Blessed John XXIII‘, in Stanhope Gardens (NSW, Australia) was a learning community consisting of three schools. I was a foundation staff member with the responsibility of both; Classroom Teacher and Technology Coordinator. The school itself was the lead school within the Diocese of Parramatta, in terms of both Architectural Design (agile learning spaces) and Technology, Prep – 12.
I have held a number of leadership roles in; Technology, Religious Education, Numeracy, Literacy, and Sport. I believe teaching and learning is an exciting career, where as educators, we aspire to engage children in a 21st Century learning environment with 21st Century learning tools. Where teaching is learner centred and data driven, and where we create life-long learners and utilise inquiry based learning.
I hold degrees in; Bachelor of Teaching, Bachelor of Education, Masters of Education (Educational Administration/Leadership) and a Certificate of Religious Education. I have training and experience in teaching the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
At a professional level, I have been an External Assessor for the New South Wales Institute of Teachers from their inception, and I am also a panel member for the Initial Teacher Education Committee for the NSW Institute of Teachers. I have worked as a Panel Member for the Audit and Review of Schools for the Catholic Education Office of Parramatta, which deals with the NSW Boad of Studies school compliance.
Consulting on educational policy and structural reform has become a passion for me. I have been able to offer my services to independent educational bodies, professional bodies and schooling systems in both Australia and Europe.
Most importantly, I am married to the most wonderful woman and have two beautiful children. I hope you enjoy reading my blog.
